A comprehensive assessment of practices, training and regulatory frameworks across the EU
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission has published a new technical report on the prospects for implementing a Fire Safety Engineering (FSE) approach in Europe. The report represents an important contribution to understanding where the sector currently stands and how it can further evolve at European level.
The publication provides a comprehensive overview of Fire Safety Engineering across Europe, examining how FSE is taught, how it is applied in practice, and how it is perceived by both regulators and practitioners. It highlights significant differences between countries, identifies gaps in education and training, and underlines the need for clearer and more coherent frameworks to support a more harmonised and evidence-based approach to fire safety.
The JRC report offers valuable insights at a time when Europe is facing major challenges linked to renovation, new construction techniques and the deployment of innovative technologies in the built environment. Strengthening the role of Fire Safety Engineering is key to ensuring that performance-based approaches are robust, transparent and aligned with public safety objectives.
Fire Safe Europe welcomes this report as a strong basis for further discussion on the future of Fire Safety Engineering and looks forward to continued collaboration with European institutions, researchers and practitioners.
