Fire Safety Inspections: The Pathway Towards European Standardisation

5 Oct 2026

A European webinar on strengthening the consistency and effectiveness of fire safety inspections

On 16 November 2026, from 14:00 to 15:30 CET, Fire Safe Europe will host the online webinar “Fire Safety Inspections: The Pathway Towards European Standardisation” as part of European Fire Safety Week 2026.

Fire safety risks do not remain static over the lifetime of a building. They can evolve as buildings age, undergo alterations, are renovated or change use. Regular fire safety inspections are therefore essential to identifying emerging risks and ensuring that appropriate safety measures remain in place.

Across Europe, however, approaches to fire safety inspections still vary considerably. Differences can be found in national regulations, inspection methodologies, responsibilities, reporting practices and enforcement mechanisms.

The webinar will explore how a more consistent European approach could help strengthen the quality and effectiveness of fire safety inspections.

Participants will be introduced to recent work on European guidelines and checklists for fire safety inspections, including the principles, processes and reporting requirements they propose. The session will also present lessons learned from pilot inspections and discuss how this work is feeding into the ongoing standardisation process within CEN/TC 127.

The event will bring together experts and stakeholders to exchange practical experience and discuss the next steps towards a stronger and more coherent European framework for fire safety inspections.
