European Commission Launches a New EPBD Public Consultation

The European Commission just launched a new open public consultation on revising the Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD) in the context of the European Green Deal ambition to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

The questionnaire, set up to collect the contributions, covers the potential main measures about:

  • EE in buildings,

  • MEPS (minimum energy performance standards),

  • BPR (building passport renovation),

  • EPC (energy performance certificate),

  • Deep renovation definitions.



You can access the questionnaire here. The deadline to introduce your answers is set to 22 June 2021 – midnight.


In parallel, the DG ENER will host 4 other workshops with stakeholders on EPBD; the 1st workshop “Setting a vision for buildings and a decarbonised buildings stock” took place on 31 March 2021.


Mark your agenda: the 2nd workshop will take place on 15 April 2021 and will be about “Workshop: Minimum energy performance standards for existing buildings“. Two weeks later will take place the 3rd workshop “Strengthening buildings information tools” (29 April 2021).The 2 remaining workshops will follow in May but the dates remain to be confirmed.


The feedback from this consultation will feed into the Commission’s preparation of legislative proposals for revising the directive, which is intended for publication before the end of the year.
