FS-REBuild Advances EU Guidance on Fire Safety in Building Renovation

15 Sept 2026

New guidance will address fire safety across key areas of building electrification and renovation

The FS-REBuild project, presented by DBI – The Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology together with Efectis, ZAG – Zavod za gradbeništvo Slovenije and TECNALIA Research & Innovation, is developing European guidance to support fire safety in the context of building renovation and electrification.

The work focuses on four core areas: energy storage systems, solar installations, insulation and the building envelope, and other technical building elements.

Fire Safe Europe has already contributed to the consultation process by providing input to the surveys covering the main areas of work. The next important step will be the publication of the first draft guidelines, which will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to review the proposed recommendations and contribute further feedback.

The initiative comes at an important moment for Europe’s building stock. As renovation and electrification accelerate across the EU, new technologies and construction approaches need to be accompanied by a strong and consistent focus on fire safety.

For Fire Safe Europe, ensuring that fire safety is integrated from the outset will be essential to delivering buildings that are not only more energy efficient, but also safer and more resilient.
